During the Meet
PARENTS: First and foremost, have fun! Encourage your child! Cheer loud! Please remind your swimmers to stay in the crash area. If they sit with you they will possibly miss a swim and definately frustrate team parent volunteers :) They can have a quick visit, get snacks, use the bathroom during breaks between events, but other than that, they need to remain in the crash area. Remind them to use the longer breaks between events to get food, use the bathroom.
SWIMMERS: First and foremost, have fun! Do your best and enjoy the meet! Encourage each other and cheer loud! Be sure to stay in the crash area! Our team parents need to be able to locate swimmers at the necessary times for races.
SWIMMER LINEUP: Team parents will gather and line up swimmers for each event. They will take them to designated chairs where they will be "staged" for their races. After a heat starts, the whole group of swimmers in the next heat move up a row of chairs.
RELAYS: Please notify coaches in advance if you will arrive late or leave a meet early. We will not assign them to a relay. Each relay has four swimmers and if one is missing, the whole relay team has to be reconfigured or forfeit. Don't cancel on relays, especially last minute - if your swimmer is signed up for a relay and for some reason cannot swim, PLEASE INFORM the coaches immediately.
DISQUALIFIED: Swimmers will be DQ'd (disqualified) for improper strokes. If your child is DQ'd, reassure them this will help them improve. We're all proud of every swimmer for every race. Meet results will state why the swimmer was DQ'd. Talk to the coaches if you have questions. Kids are learning and improving everyday.
SPORTSMANSHIP: All swimmers and parents are expected to sign the SSA Code of Conduct each year. We do not tolerate inappropriate, disrespectful and unsportsmanlike behavior from swimmers and parents.
PLACE RIBBONS: Place ribbons are awarded to 1st through 8th place in individual events and 1st through 6th place in relay events.
HEAT RIBBONS: We give out heat ribbons to first place swimmers in their heat. Heat ribbons are given to the first swimmer to touch the wall. Heat ribbons are only given for swimmers 10 and under. Heat ribbons are not given for relays.
